Pomegranate Powder – Punica granatum

Pomegranate is a tannin-rich natural dye and mordant assistant, made from the dried rind of the Punica granatum fruit. On its own, it produces soft buttery yellows, greenish tones, and subtle greys when modified with iron. It’s also commonly used as a tannin-rich mordant for preparing cellulose fibres before dyeing with other natural dyes.

Thanks to its high tannin content, pomegranate offers good lightfastness and acts as a colour shifter when used in combination with other dyes. It’s a useful addition to any natural dyer’s toolkit—both as a dye and a mordant.

Use rate: 10–20% weight of fibre (WOF) for medium depth of shade
